God Needs you? Me?
Martin Buber asserts that God needs me and I think the rhetorical point was lost in the fact that I couldn't get past the "God needs me" part. When I go back and look at it again, it may strike me different but for the time being, this may be a good subject to get the discussion rolling?

Ok, I get it, from a literal argumentative point, where logic needs to stack up, God needs You or Me too. "There is divine meaning in life." That argument makes perfect sense from a general point however, I'm not going to arrogantly attribute my individual salvation to it!
I haven't gotten to this yet. What page is this on?
It's actually a quote in the foreword. It's on the fifth page of the book. The author must agree or he would not have quoted Mr. Buber, but I'm with Fish. I'm not sure I like how he states this.
To put it more clearly, God can point to anything in His creation to exhibit "divine meaning in life" so in the most "literal" sense God does not NEED us. I think this guys quote is where intellectuals go to far to establish their credentials rather than God's intent. I think the point he (Martin Buber) was really trying to make is that God does love us and that we, being created in His image, are very meaningful indeed. But to say that we are Needed by God? This is too far. The Lord can "raise up descendants to Abraham from these rocks!"
